Blues of Maine

The Blues of Maine explore the relationship between the shapes objects are made of and the space in which they exist. Inspired by the scenes and objects of Maine, Durling’s graphic silhouettes and tiled backgrounds are derived from his own photographs taken over the last eight years. The black and white figurations are delicately created to allow for optimal recognition and understanding of the forms that make up the subjects within Durling’s images. The textured color tile backgrounds are selected from the shades of blue found within the sky, ocean and aquatic life of the original photographs. Combining these textured colors with the strong graphic black and white silhouettes creates a unique interplay between the contemporary digital artwork and traditional artistic concepts and elements.
